In a normal screening, we are looking for signs of overall health. Oral cancer is just one of the things that we are very aware of during a screening. We are also looking for other markers and indicators of health issues that would show up in the mouth and indicate other bodily diseases. We can find indicators and markers in the gingiva of the mouth before a patient may be aware of a problem.
Diabetes is directly linked to findings in the mouth. Oral screenings can alert a patient to check on issues with their physician when they may not have been aware of them.
