How to Handle a Dental Emergency

The three most common dental emergencies that I see are either pain, swelling, or something that is broken.

Pain and swelling really need to be seen as soon as possible by a dentist.

Broken things may be at the discretion of the patient’s schedule. Sometimes it is not so convenient. Who would want to cancel an appointment for something that you might find out is really kind of urgent, but not emergent?

The bottom line is that these dental emergencies should be all handled the same way. Call your dentist. Let the professional figure out what is a real problem and what is something that might be able to be subjected to the convenience of your personal schedule.
